Jaya Jusco Supermarket Cookie Aisle

Frankly speaking, i have no idea what they call this section inside Jaya Jusco Supermarket. But this is where we buy cookies for our kids. There are lots of cookies in various shapes, sizes and flavors there. Moreover, my kids get to try before we buy, lol. Less wastage this way.

The cookies there are priced according to weight. We just scoop what we want into plastic bags and take it to the nearby counter for weighing and priced for payment. Definitely cheaper than buying pre-packed branded cookies in the long run.

Ipoh Cowan Street Taugeh Chicken Restaurant

If you were to ask me what are the things that make Ipoh special and famous to the rest of the world, i can only think of three. First, its pretty lasses *ahem*, second, its taugeh (bean sprout), and third, its hor fun (flat rice noodle). This is due to Ipoh being situated in a valley with good water quality. Of course, there are more things that Ipoh is famous for. Pomelos is one, not to mention, Samm the blogger, LOL.

Pet Shop in Ipoh Garden

Okay, jokes aside. We ran out of food for our pet turtle, Didi, and hubby decided to drive all the way to Ipoh Garden to replenish its supplies. Well, our turtle is very pampered and only eats ONE particular brand of turtle pellets. The same brand for more than six years. Since the day i brought him back to live with us. It was late in the evening and not many pet shops are opened. We just wanted to try our luck and  yes, we managed to buy it for Didi. Nutrafin Basix floating turtle food.

After that, we went round hunting for food and ended up back in town as Ipoh Garden was showing signs of an impending thunderstorm. The sky was getting very dark and i can see rain somewhere far off. Better get out of the area fast lest we get caught inside some coffeeshop and cant get back to the car. Hate umbrellas, lol. I was surprised that hubby parked the car along Cowan Street. Cowan Street is like a ghost town after 7pm as most of the shops are closed at 5 or 6pm.

Restoran Cowan Street Ayam Taugeh

And we’re just right across the street from the famous Ipoh Cowan Street Taugeh Chicken Restaurant. What’s so surprising is hubby doesnt like to eat Taugeh Chicken. When i asked him, he says he stopped here cos i like to eat this worrr….. Wuah, did you hear that. But what you dont know is that he pissed me off really bad that he got a dose of my laser tongue this noon, haha. Want to make up to me also dont take me to some Cowan Street Taugeh Chicken Restaurant mah, haimai. Self-torture will not make me feel better, LOLZ.

Ipoh Taugeh Chicken

Anyways, i cant remember when was the last time i ate here. This place is so famous as it’s located just down the street where Hotel Excelsior is. Those days, famous Hong Kong celebrities like Leon Lai, Andy Lau, and God knows who else will eat there when they visit Ipoh. Eh, Andy Lau’s girlfriend, Carol Chu is from Ipoh, you know. Won some beauty contest back in the 80s one, you know. See, proof that Ipoh girls are pretty. BTW, did you know that Andy Lau and Carol Chu getting married soon?

Ipoh Taugeh

A little about Ipoh Cowan Street Taugeh Chicken Restaurant. I used to eat there quite a lot last time (like 10 years back) as the food there was really good. The keyword being WAS. The Ipoh Hor Fun there was translucent and the soup….. to die for. The serving there was really little and you need at least three bowls of the addictive Ipoh Hor Fun soup to feel it in your stomach. Back then, it was rumored that each time customers there complaint about the size of the serving, the lansi boss will tell his customers to go to Lou Wong if they want big servings o.O

Ipoh Hor Fun

Today, we found that the serving has increased in size. The Ipoh Hor Fun isnt as translucent and smooth as before. The soup lost its ooomph. And WTF are those black flecks doing in the soup???? The Taugeh is more or less the same. How can you ever go wrong with Ipoh Taugeh? Unless you go plant it yourself gua, hahahaha.

Ipoh Cowan Street Chicken

We ordered Chicken for two persons. And just as i suspect, we got all chicken breast and lots of bony back parts cos hubby didnt specify which part we want. Knn, no drumstick, no wing, only dry tasteless breast made palatable by the soya sauce and lots of oil. Can you see how much oil there is on the plate, sigh. Guess enough to clog my arteries for a good 12 months. Without it, the chicken breast will taste like toilet tissue paper in my mouth. In all, the bill was Rm24 for four bowls of Hor Fun, a plate of Ipoh Taugeh, and a plate of Chicken for two.

Dog in restaurant

One last rant before i go. Pets are welcome here…… nuff said. If you dont want to offend your customers, then put up a “No Pets Allowed” signboard at the entrance mah can loh, right or not. On a scale of 1 to 10, i rate it a 6. Very generous di. I dont know if i’ll ever eat there agin. Maybe i will, maybe not. Unless i have overseas or outstation friends visiting Ipoh and they insist on dining here, or maybe i have amnesia one day and totally forgotten about today…..

Breakfast Of Rice, Stir-fried Cucumbers And Fish

It’s raining here in Ipoh now. Though the air-cond is set at 24 deg Celsius, i’m still feeling the cold with my sweater on. The last thing i want to do now is to get out of bed and cook something for my rumbling stomach. I really wanted to hide under the sheets but Gordon is up and he wanted “cookies”. Hubby bought a lot from Jusco Supermarket last week.  And so, what to do. No choice but to get out of bed and head to the kitchen.

We seldom buy branded cookies nowadays unless they are really good. We’ve tried many different types of cookies from the cookies aisle near the wine section and found them to be fresh and tasty. Just like what you get in boxes, but minus the pricetag. Moreover, my kids get to try them before we buy, lol. We’re such a regular there that the workers couldnt be bothered to stop our kids from munching on the cookies. Of course, we dont go overboard with it. Only a few.

There’s food on the kitchen table. Some stir-fried cucumbers with dried prawns and chillies, and one fish. My MIL must have cooked this for my FIL early this morning. The lazybum in me decided to eat some of it with hot rice instead of cooking an instant noodle with egg. Afterall, this is Asia, and we do eat rice for breakfast, k. Rice is our staple food. What did you eat for breakfast this morning?

YES! You Can Bake Muffins In Toaster Oven

It’s a rainy Sunday and Papa’s not around to take us out. The Muffin Pre-mixes i bought from Wah Seng (Ipoh) on Friday were still lying on the kitchen table. The kids are hungry and i had to come up with something to keep them happy till dinner. And so……

Baking muffins in Toaster Oven

I baked them 16 Blueberry muffins using half a packet of the pre-mix.

Blueberry Muffins rising in Toaster Oven

Rising nicely in the mini muffin cups without touching the top of the toaster oven.

Toaster Oven Blueberry Muffins

In 15 minutes, my Blueberry muffins are ready to be eaten.

Gordon and Malcolm having muffins

I brought two into the room for Gordon and Malcolm.

Here’s Malcolm enjoying the Blueberry muffin. Gordon ran away as soon as he got his.

And here’s how the Blueberry Muffins from Wah Seng are like on the inside. Just the right texture. I love baking for kids. PASS.

Muffin Pre-mixes From Wah Seng

These are what i bought from Wah Seng (Ipoh), a baking supplies store, on Friday.

Muffins Pre-mixes

Two packets of Muffin Pre-mixes. One Blueberry Muffin Mix, the other Kiwi Muffin Mix. Rm6 each packet.

Mini muffin cups

And of course, some mini muffin cups for use with my Philips toaster oven. I baked muffins with papercups  using toaster oven before as i didnt have these small baking cups then. See how much work needs to be done before i get to bake muffins in a toaster oven, lol.
