Organic Samm

This batch of pictures were taken on 4th February 2009 at Jaya Jusco, Kinta City, Ipoh. If i dont put them up, i’ll most probably never will. It was still Chinese New Year, and there was this Chinese Arts And Crafts Exhibition going on. I was there with hubby and both kids. What’s there to do in Ipoh, haimai.

The first thing that caught my eyes was this Chinese Sugar Art display of a Dragon. I managed to squirm my way into the crowd and took this pic. It’s made entirely from melted sugar, or malt (mak ngah). Beautiful eh, and edible too. It only costs Rm5 to have one done before your eyes. There is a chart in front of the man and you just select which design you want him to make. It only take a minute or two and you’ll get to show this off in your hands.

I was lucky as a lady behind me wanted to buy one for her kid. I fast fast took out my ever-ready Nokia N82 and took this video. It’s a Monkey trying to pick fruits. The Monkey, Rm5. The video, Priceless. Mesmerized, Gordon also clapped his hands and says, “That’s very good. That’s nice…..” No, darling…. Mama’s not buying you one.

This is a 3d Sugar Art Praying Mantis. This costs about Rm30 each o.O. I assume a lot of work is needed to produce this that it costs 6x more than the 2d version. Too bad no one ordered this. NOT ME, NOT ME, NOT ME!!!!

And here’s another Sugar Art Goldfish. It’s actually quite lively if you watch it closely. Also, no one ordered this . Too csotly lorrrr. Not that it’s something that we can keep forever. If we dont eat it, the ants will. If i dont eat it, MY KIDS WILL!!!

These are Chinese Dough Art. For a few bucks (cant remember liao), you get your very own personalized figurine crafted in real time for you. Upon closer inspection, the image on the figurine the man is working on looks quite like the lady seated there. Not bad, eh. I just wonder how long these will last. The man was in deep concentration and i faisi disturb him. If the kids werent with me, i really dont mind having one done too.

Beautiful ladies in glass displays. Very small, about 2 inches or so only. Chinese Dough Art brings back lots of childhood memories. I used to go to the wet market with my mom when i was just a tot. Once in a while, we’ll see an old Chinese Ah Pek selling these Chinese Dough figurines at the market. And no, mom seldom buys me one. I cant even remember if she ever bought me one of these or not. We dont have much money back then. Every cent that we had went to food for the family.

This is so cute. Year Of The Ox mah. Golden Ox worrr… sure ONGGG wannn….
