My mom always tell me that the simplest food cooked with basic ingredients tastes best. And mom is always right. I think from my previous dinner preparation post, you would have already guessed what the dishes will turn out to be.

There’s stir-fried young tapioca leaves with chopped garlic and onions with soy sauce. The pomfret looks and tastes just right. As for the Char Siu, i bought that after sending my kids to school.

A closer look of the fried white pomfret. It’s fleshy and yummy!!!!

Look!!! There’s roe inside too.

The plate of stir-fried young tapioca leaves with garlic, onions and soy sauce. Very very tender and nutritious.

And last, fried rice with garlic, onions and eggs. Not bad, eh.

My FIL knows Malcolm loves fish and brought this Pomfret back from the wholesale market for him. Our family’s in the Seafood Wholesale business and we eat seafood all year round. The prawns i use to cook Maggi Mee with is as big as your whole palm, lol.
This Pomfret weighs roughly 700gm. Enough for three adults and two kids for dinner. There are two types of Pomfret. This is the costlier white variety, the kind usually sold at Hotels and Chinese Restaurants. During Chinese New year, each of these can call up to Rm100+.We dont eat this during CNY. Better to sell them for profit, LOL!!!!
And then, there’s the Black variety. It’s cheaper and can be bought easily. To me, the White Pomfret tastes better and has a finer texture compared to the Black Pomfret. We’re not going to steam this today as steamed fish needs to be prepared just before it’s served . We’ll be frying it instead. Ya, i know, what a waste right. Nevermind, we have plenty…..

This is my lunch. I bought it back after sending my kids to school. It’s Roasted Chicken, Char Siu and Pickled Vegetables with rice for me today. I’ll be eating home a lot this week as hubby’s gone back to KL. It rained early this morning. The weather is great despite the wet ground.
I love Char Siu ever since i was a kid. I remember each time i follow my mom to the pork-seller’s stall at the market, he will cut me a small piece of Char Siu to munch on. And also, when i fall ill, i will always request for Char Siu with Bee Hoon. As for chicken, i’ve always preferred Roasted Chicken over the Plain version.
I also bought some extra Char Siu back just now as i want to cook Bee Hoon for my kids later on. We had Burdock Soup last night and i kept some inside the fridge. I’ll cut the the Char Siu into tiny pieces and add somee to the Bee Hoon for them. Then later on tonight, i’ll make omelette with the remaining Char Siu to go with rice. Great eh.
