This is the Assam Ikan Kembong my MIL cooked with the Bunga Kantan (Torch Ginger Flower) just now. She was having an early dinner at the kitchen when i took this pic and asked me why i keep taking pics of her cooking, lol.
I told her i just wanna show off her masterpieces. I may not cook much, but i sure can blog about them, lol. I scrammed when she hinted she’ll teach me how to cook. My bad….

I seldom see Bunga Kantan or Torch Ginger Flower in this household. So, when i saw one on the chopping board just now, i couldnt resist the urge to take a pic of it. My MIL was preparing ingredients to cook Assam Ikan Kembong and she says by adding Bunga Kantan (Torch Ginger Flower), it’ll taste better.
The Bunga Kantan was already out of its pod when i took this pic. It’s a beautiful flower in a nice pink hue. Have you seen it before? I used to hate its smell near the Malay stalls whenever i follow my mom to the yet market when i was little. Gee…. I can almost smell the Torch Ginger Flower all over again in my head. BLUUEEKKKK!!

Malcolm has been hankering for ice-cream, ice-cream, and ice-cream and so, we took the kids to Kopitiam Junction for tea after school on Tuesday. We ordered him one and my boy was so happy, lol.

Both hubby and Gordon had fried rice. I’m sick of the fried rice there. I dont know about the rest of you but i get ultra thirsty after eating it. Must be the MSG, or the salty anchovies, or the Tom Yam soup that came with it…..

And so, i ordered their Luncheon Meat with Egg Instant Noodles. It tastes exactly like Cintan mee to me, lol. But i’ve not eaten Luncheon meat for a longgggggg time. And mmm…… tastes good worrr. Something different for a change lah.

The nasi lemak sold at the Tong Sui shop is quite good. It has anchovies, long beans, sambal, roasted peanuts, cucumber and a fried egg. I even bought two types of tong sui back. One for myself, the other for the kids. Will blog about that next, ok.

My mom always tell me that the simplest food cooked with basic ingredients tastes best. And mom is always right. I think from my previous dinner preparation post, you would have already guessed what the dishes will turn out to be.

There’s stir-fried young tapioca leaves with chopped garlic and onions with soy sauce. The pomfret looks and tastes just right. As for the Char Siu, i bought that after sending my kids to school.

A closer look of the fried white pomfret. It’s fleshy and yummy!!!!

Look!!! There’s roe inside too.

The plate of stir-fried young tapioca leaves with garlic, onions and soy sauce. Very very tender and nutritious.

And last, fried rice with garlic, onions and eggs. Not bad, eh.
