If i were to ask Gordon where would he like to eat at, he will surely tell me he wants to go to 1919. By that he means the corner restaurant across the street from Tesco at Ipoh Garden East.
Restaurant 1919 has been around for a long time. We love to take our kids there for meals as the place is very cosy. Of course, the food there is great too. It’s a Halal Restaurant in case i have a Muslim reader here.
When i say cosy, i mean the place is really cosy. It’s filled with lots of knick-knacks and antiques. So, if you have young curious children like mine. TIE THEM UP, LOL!!!!
Every corner of the restaurant is filled with “stuffs”, see what i mean.
My little “Toilet Inspector” will check out every toilet everywhere we go; be it a restaurant, coffeeshop, friend’s house or mall. He keep insisting that i “close the window” after he washed his hands. I have to shoo him out with the “cane-cane” i bring along with me everywhere. Dont ask why, DOHHHHH.
Here are just some of the food we’ve eaten there before. Dont be alarmed. These pics were taken over a long period of time. Definitely not what we ate in a single trip to 1919.
I thought this would be just any other ordinary Steamed Tofu. I love to order tofu as i love its texture and good for health. My kids also think they are eating “egg” and wont complain much. So, i tell them it’s a special “egg”.
See what’s inside when it’s opened. It’s filled with chopped up vegetables, mushrooms and prawns. It’s a large serving. We nearly didnt finish this. Unless we’re going there with two more adults, i dont think we’ll order this again as we’d like to try out other dishes as well.
Hubby loves vegetables and so, we had this plate of mixed vegetables with cashew nuts. And yup, we both like it, but not the kids. Malcolm only wants the carrots. Gordon….. “dowan….”. Errrr no, he whacked all the cashew nuts if i’m not wrong.
The waitress recommended we try this Honey Chicken. She says it s firm favorite with kids and she’s so right. It’s boneless, and tastes sweet. Gordon ate most of it, and requested for more. Order this if you are dining with kids.
Malcolm loves soup very much. We ordered him this Seaweed Soup and he drank every drop of it. As for the vegetables, as usual, he only wants the carrots. Hubby and i ate most of what’s left of the soup. It’s a tad too salty for our liking. We wont be ordering it next time unless amnesia sets it.
In place of the Seaweed Soup, we now order Seong Tong Yin Choy. Yin Choy is Chinese Spinach. It has a good soup base with some century eggs and bits of grilled cuttlefish to make it very aromatic. The kind that makes you want to slurp it when it’s placed before you. The Yin Choy served is also very tender, just that way i like it.
Nah…. see…… haimai very good leh. Order this two-in-one dish on your next trip k.
This is the best Mantis Prawns i’ve had. The batter covering it is not too thick; just enough to give it that crunchy feel. The addition of the Milky Mushroom Sauce compliments it so well that i have to recommend you try this when you eat there. We cant help it but order it each time. It gets the “Thumbs Up” from my family of four.
“Sam Wong Tan” is steamed egg custard with three different types of egg; chicken eggs, duck eggs and century eggs all in one dish. The kids like eggs so we order this once in a while for them. Nothing to shout about.
Ahhhh… this is Pandan Chicken. Actually, i like the pic more than the real thing, lol. My guess is, the bite-sized chicken pieces are first fried, then wrapped with pandan leaves for another round of deep frying. Goes well when dipped with the accompanying sauce.
Here’s just a macro shot of the Pandan Chicken. So-so jek. But worth a try also lah.
This is Grilled Honey Chicken. It’s like Char-Siu to me. Texture wise, it’s moist and tender. Taste wise, it’s sweet lah. Kids will like this but honestly, i prefer the Honey Chicken i wrote earlier in this post.
The tofu freak in us must have tofu once in a while. This is a delicious tofu dish in which the tofu is green in color. I suppose it got its color from spinach. It’s topped with chopped vegetables, minced chicken and also prawns. We like this very much. PASS.
Restaurant 1919 actually has a lot more yummy food that i’ve yet to try. You see, when you’re out dining with young children, we tend to order food that they wont object to until they get tired of eating it. It’s going to take many more trips there in order to try out the ones that i’ve marked down on my must-order-this-next-time list, lol.
This ends my Food P0rn session for the day. Writing this post made me so hungry. If Restaurant 1919 is near where i live, i would have gone there for a meal right now. Alas, it’s like 15Km away. Maybe this weekend. If you have good company and looking for a place with good food, i would recommend you head over to Restaurant 1919 and try out some of the dishes we’ve had there. To all my movie addicts, glad you all enjoyed watching all the daily episodes online
