Each time hubby suggests we go for Indian Food or Nasi Kandar, i will joke with him and say he should have married an Indian Lady, and not me. He just love to eat Indian Food. This blog is proof of how many times i have blogged about our Indian Food chowtime whereabouts, lol.
Hubby actually meant to go for another round of Indian Food at Ipoh Oldtown. As yesterday was a public holiday, the whole of Ipoh Oldtown was jam-packed with motorists doing their banking. Cars were either double or triple parked right outside the banks. After going round the place around five times, hubby gave up and drove back into town.
He drove past Hume Street (where all the funeral parlors are located in Ipoh), and found a parking space on his left just as we were about to reach the Jalan Yang Kalsom T-junction. With a big grin on his face, he parked right there. This is another one of his favorite Nasi Kandar joints. Run by his old schoolmate. We seldom eat there as it’s also difficult to get a parking space along Jalan Yang Kalsom. Today must be his lucky day then. Rumors had it that this Nasi Kandar used to cook their rice with Ganja to make their customers come back for more. So much so that it’s nicknamed Nasi Ganja. It’s a rumor ok. I dont know how far true it is, ok. Dont come and flak me about it.
I left it to him to order the food. He got me this Mutton Kurma. It may look bony and do not have much to bite. But he was in for a surprise when i managed to cut out lots of meaty bits for him to try. He’s not too fond of meat. The curry is so good that i ate it all with my rice.
This Nasi Kandar stall is famous for its Ayam Goreng. You should see the workers carrying them non-stop from the kitchen. One is never enough. Hubby ordered two. Or else, we’ll be fighting over the last bite, lol.
And this is the plate of rice. Comes with cucumber slices, one miserable piece of Lady’s Finger, curry and the sambal to the left. Dunno what it’s called but i like it when eaten with each spoonful of my rice. There’s also a hard-boiled egg which you cant see in my post. In all, plus two glasses of Teh-O-Ais-Limau (Rm3), the bill came up to Rm18.10. Expensive, hoh. But nevermind lah, i’m not the one footing the bill
To summarise this Nasi Kandar stall, the food quality has dropped a bit. The portions like the rice is much smaller compared to just a few years back. They no longer serve the vegetables and curries in separate plates before you. Instead, as you can see in the final picture, everything is piled onto the plate. Not a very pretty sight if you were to ask me. Cant blame them also. I believe this is also partly due to the rising cost of food prices.
Nevertheless, we’ll still go have lunch there another day should we ever find a parking space next time. In all my honest opinion, i’ll rate this Nasi Kandar a 7 out of 10. To my movie addicts, The Stew Of Life is currently airing. Drop me a comment with your email for updates.
