Mee Ladna

As promised earlier, this is the Mee Ladna i had at the Mamak Shop. I made a huge mistake by ordering Mee Ladna with Yellow Noodles instead of Rice Vermicelli or Bihun lah. The smell of “kan sui” or simply, BORIC ACID, is far too over-powering for me. It’s been reported that Yellow Noodles contains the highest level of boric acid. It’s as high as 14.8%. You can read the article here. And of cos, i took one whiff of it and ordered something else. Anyways, if it’s cooked with Bihun, it’s wonderful. Just like our Cantonese Wat Tan Horr.

Well, enough of Yellow Noodles and Boric Acid. Let’s move on to what on air starting this week.  I’m late again, as usual, lol. Well, it’s When Lanes Merge. It’s a new drama series centered around the lives of taxi drivers. I gotta go off soon. So, you folks go watch When Lanes Merge online. Follow me on Twitter for the latest episode updates, ok. Get your access there.

Mini Hand-held Chopper

I bought this mini hand-held chopper a long time ago. It only costs Rm10, but it does the job well. After peeling all the shallots and garlic, dump all of it into the bottom container and screw the top part back onto it. Hold it firmly on a flat surface and press down on the top with your palm many times till everything inside is chopped as fine as you like, gaotim. Just in case you dont know, with this mini hand-held chopper, garlic butter rice happens to be a current addiction of mine…. can get fat wan or not? If you hate chopping onions and garlic, this is a must-have item in your kitchen. Cheap and functional. Eco-friendly and doesnt consume electricity too :)

Bento Of The Day

I’m home to make bento for my kids today. Gordon wasnt too happy as Papa promised to take him to Parkson yesterday but left for KL on Tuesday night. So, to make my boy happy, he’s gonna have some of his favorite food for recess afterwards.

Bento for my kids

I’m indeed lucky that my MIL does all the marketing. With minced pork, de-boned chicken drumstick, one egg and half a packet of instant noodle, this is what i prepared.

Gordon's Bento Thursday 24 June 2010

I cooked pizza-shaped noodle omelet, minced pork meatballs and pan-fried bite-sized chicken drumstick. Though everything is fried with as little oil as possible, it’s still heaty in this hot weather. I thought we had cucumber in the fridge, but i guessed wrongly. So, cooling cucumber today :( . The meatballs has finely chopped carrots and onions in it. He gets to dip the meatballs and chicken in garlic-basil-tomato sauce. There’s cold oranges in the Thermos container and iced Pei-pah-ko in a separate tumbler. That’ll take care of the heatiness (i hope so).

Malcolm's Tea-time snack - Thursday 24 June 2010

This is for Malcolm. He’ll be very happy to see his meal on his favorite Sesame Street plate. Since i’ll be home later on, i’ll ask him what he wants to eat his meatballs and chicken with. Ahhhhh…. dont you wish you have a mom like me me me me me me me :p Gotta go back to camp now. Tata

Happy Father’s Day 2010

Today is Father’s Day. My dad passed away in year 2008. This is the second year i wont ever get to hug him, kiss him, nor see him. He shall always remain in my memory forever. So, if yours is still around, cherish every single moment you get to spend with him.

The kids woke up much earlier than both hubby and i. Malcolm wanted food but i ignored him and he went back to sleep (lousy mom :p). Gordon asked for Noodles with egg. I asked him for the time and he told me it’s 12.14pm!!!! That’s it. i just had to leave my warm bed, the warm sheets, the inviting pillows and bolsters…..

I told him i’m going to make him a very special Egg Mayo Sandwich instead and his eyes lit up. As long as his food has egg in it, he’ll be grinning away, haha. He gets to take it into the room and wish Papa Happy Father’s Day. Now, what’s so special about this egg mayo sandwich? It’s still egg mayo and bread only, lol. We’ll see….

Round Egg Mayo Sandwich

Place egg mayo at the center of the bread in the shape of a circle….

Top it with another slice of bread….

Place a glass on top of it….

Press down on it…..

Use a sharp-ended knife and run it round the glass rim….

And tadaaaa…. you get Round Egg Mayo Sandwich. Haimai hou cute lehhhh…..

There is a lot of leftover bread when you make these round egg mayo sandwich. Dont throw them away. Use the leftovers to make bread pudding or freeze them for breadcrumbs. The kids just wanted to eat them immediately. And yes, Papa was so impressed when Gordon handed him the plate and wished him Happy Father’s Day. He had no idea how i made them round either, lol.

Well, the steps are shown in pictures above. It’s so easy that your 4 year old can help make them. You can use anything other than egg mayo as filling. Next time, i’ll go through my kid’s toybox and see if i can find something that can be used to get an interesting shape. Just make sure the edges are wide so that you can press the sides together. If your cookie cutters have a blunt edge, try it.

Happy Father's Day 2010

This is the Father’s Day card that Malcolm brought back from school. Together with the Round Egg Mayo Sandwiches, it makes a wonderful brunch for the four of us. We’ll be taking the kids for a haircut after this as today also marks the end of the school holidays. It’s back to the daily grind starting tomorrow. Enjoy today to the max ya.

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY

Mee Bandung For Supper

Hubby ordered Mee Bandung for supper. He’s never tried it before. The soup is so nice. It’s orange in color, tastes sweet and spicy with an egg knocked in it. To cite an example, it’s kinda like the sweet and sour gravy when you order crabs from the tai chau stalls. The Mee Bandung has some chicken and lots of mixed vegetables in it. Both hubby and i like it very much. Will definitely order this again next time. Yummy!
