Today, Malaysia celebrates her 53rd year of independence. Being Malaysian, a good way to kick start this memorable day would be to indulge in Nasi Lemak with Chicken Rendang, a truly Malaysian fare.
A friend sent me this picture. It’s a Ceramic Butter Keeper. She wanted to know where she can buy a good ceramic butter keeper online. I’ve seen ceramic butter keepers before but never occurred to me to buy one back. Not that my family eat a lot of better to begin with.
Now, let’s talk a bit about this ceramic butter keeper. And just like its name, it can help you keep your butter soft and spreadable at room temperature for up to a month without it going bad. It’s also known as a butter bell in some countries. It’s very easy to use. Just place your butter into the container at the top, pour some water into the bottom container, and invert the top back into the bottom container. This will seal out the air and keeps your butter soft and spreadable each time hunger strikes. Easy peasy!!!
Now that i understand how this ceramic butter keeper works, i believe i somehow NEED one desperately now, lol. The reason i seldom use butter on my bread is because it’s NOT spreadable each time i take it out of the fridge. I hate it when i want to eat bread with butter, and the butter is cold and hard. Who has the time to wait for it to soften, right. By then, i would have forgotten all about it already; troublesome. I know we can now buy spreadable butter, but, i hate the high water content. Moreover, they are more expensive than my regular favorite brand. Why pay extra for water, lol!!!!
So, if you are like me, dont you think butter ought to be out on your kitchen table instead of inside the fridge? Well, here are some of the best ceramic butter keepers that i’ve found online. My friend bought a lot of them. She says she’s going to give them away to friends and family members for Christmas, LOL!!!! Good idea. I think i’ll do the same too. Check out the range of ceramic butter keepers here:

It’s Saturday. Hubby’s back as i fell ill on Wednesday night. He cant be home for long as there’s work to be done back in KL. We dont feel like going out for food. Homecooked goodness is still best. Stew is the best comfort food of all times. And today, we’re having Chicken Stew with Chinese Mushrooms and Puffy Tofu (tau fu pok).
These are the main ingredients needed to cook this Chicken Stew. Other than that, you’ll need some chopped shallots, garlic and ginger. Fry these with sesame oil till fragrant. Then add the main ingredients in and mix them well. Add enough water to cover all the main ingredients, soy sauce, oyster sauce, chinese rice wine and a little bit of salt, sugar and pepper for flavoring. For a different taste each time, you can add taucu, or blackbean paste to it. Stew for a few hours till all tender. Best served piping hot straight from the pot with rice.
At least eight hostages held for 10 hours appear to have survived the hijacking of a tour bus in the heart of the Philippines capital Monday.
The hostage-taker was a former police officer, Rolando Mendoza, who demanded his job back after he was fired for misconduct a year ago. Mendoza, armed with an M-16 assault rifle, died of a gunshot wound to the head. Seven Hong Kong tourists aboard the hijacked bus were killed, with two being seriously injured, police said.
There were 15 hostages on the bus when police stormed it. Nine had been released earlier, including a mother and her three children, a man with diabetes, and two photographers . Most of those on the bus were tourists. Hong Kong leader Donald Tsang criticised the authorities handling of the siege, the violent final stages of which were beamed live by global news channels.
Police boarded the gunman-controlled bus about 40 minutes after the driver left and claimed the hostage-taker had killed all those remaining on board. The police retreated immediately, possibly after firing a shot into the bus.
Police cordoned off the area around the bus as they tried to negotiate, and sharpshooters were stationed nearby. Food was delivered to the hostages still on board.
ANC showed passengers peeking out from behind curtains of the parked bus and a sign posted on the bus door saying, “Big mistake to correct a big wrong decision.”
My deepest condolences to the bereaved families for losing their loved ones so tragically. May God bless their souls.
Ever went to Pak Kong for its famous chicken rice? It’s at Theater Street. Went there for lunch with my friend one afternoon after dropping my kid off at school. I still remember the time when i was pregnant with Gordon. Hubby took me there when i had a sudden craving for it. Sigh….. those were the days. If you’ve not been to Pak Kong for chicken rice before, you ought to give it a try.
