Samm’s homemade Soya Bean Milk

It’s actually not that difficult to make our own Soya Milk. Frankly speaking, it’s way better that store-bought variety. All you need is an automatic soya bean milk maker, a mug of soya beans and you’re done.

Here’s my automatic soya bean milk maker. I bought the large one as it can make 2 liters at one go.

Soak around 150gm of soya bean overnight for at least 10 hours.

Remove the skin by rubbing the beans together in your palms and rinsing it every now and then and flushing the skin away. Repeat until you remove as much as possible. This will reduce the much-hated beany taste. This is the container which i have to replace to the bottom of the soya bean milk maker.

Here it is and ready to be boiled.

This is how it looks like right after i’ve removed it from the maker. Some people like to squeeze the last few drops out from the okara (Soya bean pulp) by putting it in a muslin cloth and wring it, lol. Gimme a break.

Nah, this is the okara. If you were to add some flour and eggs, they make great filling and very nutritious pancakes. Or you can also add some filling to it and turn them into fried okara balls. I wont bother with it now.

Mmmmm… fresh homemade soya bean milk is the best. Just let it stand for a while so that the sediment stays at the bottom.

DSC04740

Pour slowly into containers using a sieve, k. And go real slow towards the end into a cup as those will have more sediment.

Delicious… you can then flavor it with honey or whatever you like. I prefer mine plain. Hubby wants his sweetened. Too bad i forgot to buy his organic sweetener….ishhhhh. Men and their demands.

Maggi Mee for breakfast

Hubby asked me to cook him Maggi Mee as he didnt want to go out in the rain for breakfast. So, out comes the ingredients and here’s how Samm cooks Maggi Mee.

DSC04745

Two packets of Maggi Mee and two Omega eggs.

DSC04746

Noodle cooked and rinsed in cold water.

DSC04747

Crack two eggs into a bowl

DSC04748

Add to pot of stock and let simmer slowly.

DSC04744

It’s a last minute decision to add prawns to the Maggi Mee cos i saw some fresh ones inside the fridge. Dont jeles hoh. We eat prawns this size back home.

DSC04751

Cooked separately in hot water.

DSC04753

And tadaaaa…. two bowls of delicious Maggi Mee with eggs and prawns Samm’s style. And yes, dribble lots of organic extra virgin olive oil over it!!!

Up close and personal…. hungry now?

Toasted Gardenia Toastem’

Gardenia Toastem inside Philips toaster oven

Did you know how many pieces of bread i burnt before i finally got it right. The instructions on the toaster indicated 4 - 6 minutes at 230 deg. I was skeptical about this and even stood by to keep watch. And boy, was i right. It got so hot and the bottom got burnt very quickly, lol. I reduced the temperature to 100 deg and stood guard for a few minutes until i got it right. And it’s fabulous. Yes, this is so different from the upright two-slice toaster that i had previously. Okay, now i know how to toast a perfect piece of bread. Pass.
