Cooking Ketchup Crabs On A Friday Morning

FIL brought crabs back from the wholesale market this morning. I’ve been living here for more than a decade. Guess this is only the second or third time i’ve seen him bring crabs back. Fish and prawns are the norm. Since he had angioplasty last year, prawns are no where to been seen either, haha. FIL did everything from cleaning to cooking the crabs.

By the time hubby and i entered the kitchen, everything is already cooking in the wok. We only went about adding eggs into the mixture and tasting.

And this is the final result. It’s good. According to FIL, this could easily fetch Rm150 at any seafood restaurant. Arent we just lucky to be in the seafood business :)

Preparing Mah Yau For Lunch

Cutting up a big fat Mah-yau fish

Here’s my FIL, preparing a big fat mah yau for lunch later on. It’s about 16 inches long, and weighs close to 2kg. He’s performing a very crucial surgery procedure on the fish. That is, making a slit to the part right beneath the bone after removing all the guts. This is to release all the dirty blood from the fish. If not, no matter how much salt and pepper you rub onto it, you’ll still get the dreaded fishy taste after you’ve cooked it to perfection.

There’s a lot of clot up blood to remove, and also veins to pull out. So, do take time to clean the fish properly before you cook it. Ahhhhhh…… da fish is big. So, fry half, steam half :)

Tonight’s Dinner Is Served

Tonight's Dinner Is Served

I’m cooking today. As i’m rushing some Christmas knitting order, i can only cook quick and simple dishes. Tonight, i cooked Choi Sum with Siew Yook. I experimented with the bottles of sauces inside the fridge just now. I fried a fish and covered it with sour plum sauce laced with chinese Hua Tiew wine. To enhance the flavor, i also added a little oyster sauce to it. Good worr. Very tangy. Hope my in-laws approves of it. Oh yes, there’s chinese herbal soup in the crockpot too. What are you having for dinner tonight?

Dinner Of Stir-fried Prawns With Tomatoes And Onions, And Fried Pomfret

Had to cook dinner this evening. Found some nice juicy tomatoes inside the fridge, and prawns up in the freezer. A big fat pomfret was staring at me and i took that too, lol. I’ll leave the rest of the other meats for weekend cooking. Dont feel like eating out these days.

So, for tonight, we all got to eat Stir-fried Prawns with Tomatoes and Onions. The fat pomfret too forever to cook as its flesh was so thick. Lucky for me i slit both sides to hasten the cooking process. Still, it took forever. Abuthen, both dishes were satisfying. Malcolm had a bit of everything, but Gordon only eats the fish with some tomato gravy. Glad they both finished their dinner happily.

Breakfast Of Steamed Fish With Rice

测试

I’m having a healthy breakfast of steamed fish with rice this morning. Definitely much better than having to drive out for hawker food, horr.
